I have uploaded the following comprehensive textbooks on Organic Chemistry, in view of the fact that many of the old links, especially those on rapidshare.de, have become broken. Where available, both PDF and DJVU versions of books have been uploaded. Both editions have been uploaded where two editions were available, due to the fact that often omissions of material from newer editions cannot be justified, as in the case of Vogel's Practical Organic Chemistry 3rd and 5th editions. These links should last until at least February 2008.

This text provides experimental methods for a wide range of organic reactions, systematically arranged according to reaction type, and describes the advantages and limitations of the procedures. Traditional methods to speed up organic reactions involve energy-consuming processes and costly and environmentally "unfriendly" solvents. Additionally, isolation of the product requires energy and time-consuming purification processes. A simple solution, especially for reactions involving anionic reactants, is the use of phase-transfer catalysis. Quaternary ammonium cations have the ability to transfer the anionic reactants as non-solvated ion-pairs from aqueous media into organic media. The resultant effect is to increase the rate of the organic reaction by enhancing the reactivity of the anionic species and increasing the encounter rate with the organic substrate. Side reactions are frequently eliminated so that the overall yield of the desired product is increased.
Quaternary Ammonium Salts presents procedures for reducing reaction times and the need for extreme conditions, which are frequently encountered under standard reaction procedures.
This is the only book to be published on quaternary ammonium salts. Biography of the Author Dr. Niamh Nic Daeid:
I am a Forensic Chemist specialising in fire investigation and the analysis of drugs. I have been working at the Centre for Forensic Science since 1994.
My first degree is in Chemistry and Mathematics (Specialising in Statistics) from Trinity College Dublin. I completed my PhD in Bioinorganic Chemistry at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. I also hold a degree in Psychology.
I am active in research and am the principal investigator on a number of recent EPSRC grants relating to forensic chemistry.
I undertake casework and consultancy mainly in the areas of fire scene investigation, fire debris analysis, drug analysis and the statistical evaluation of evidence.
I also hold a number of professional offices including:
* Lead Assessor for the CRFP fire scene examiners register.
* Editor of Science and Justice.
* Deputy chair of the ENFSI fire and explosion working group.
* Member of Council of the Forensic Science Society.
* Manager of the Forensic Science Society's Professional Diplomas.

* Recovery of human contact traces (DNA and fingerprint enhancement) from fire scenes.
* The effect of fire on electrical conductors - arc maping.
* The chemical analysis of thermal decomposition products of polymers and their relationship to the evaluation of fire debris analysis.
* Evaluation of ignition sources.
* Combustion of char supporting thermoplastics materials such as PU foam and PVC.
* Packaging materials and extraction mechanisms in fire debris analysis.
* Using Artificial Neural Networks in the evaluation of chromatographic data resulting from fire debris analysis.

Marijuana and the Cannabinoids presents a compendium of research into the botany, chemistry, and pharmacology of cannabis and the medicinal aspects of the cannabinoids. While medicinal use of Cannabis sativa L. has been reported for over 5000 years, interest in its medicinal potential and controversy surrounding its illicit use have grown exponentially since the identification of the chemical structure of the plant's active constituent (D9-THC) in 1964. This volume presents the findings of researchers on the forefront of this emerging and controversial field of study.
Chapter 1 is an overview of Cannabis and natural Cannabis medicines, while Chapter 2 focuses on the chemistry and analysis of phytocannabinoids and other Cannabis constituents. Chapter 3 discusses the potential of chemical fingerprinting of Cannabis as a means for source identification, and Chapters 4 and 5 outline the chemistry and pharmacology of cannabinoids and marijuana smoke condensate. In Chapter 6, the endocannabinoid system and the therapeutic potential of cannabinoids is presented.
